We are completing the transition to Breck-managed Apple IDs in the Spring of 2024. This transition is underway to take advantage of several features of iCloud that are now available to organizations.

  • 200GB of iCloud storage and collaboration with Apple's software, such as Pages, Keynote, and Freeform
  • Automatic Rostering of Apple Classroom with Veracross classes for classroom management of student Macs and iPads
  • "Continuity" features between your Breck Mac and iPad like universal copy and paste, screen mirroring, and more.

When we enabled the accounts on March 1st, Apple began the process of importing our user list and resolving username conflicts. In order to create Managed Apple IDs, anyone who currently has a personal Apple ID using their Breck email address will be asked to change that address to a personal email address. You will not lose any purchases, and can share data back to your new Managed Apple ID, if desired.

These Apple ID accounts will enable all of the collaboration and cloud storage features of iCloud accounts for our educational and professional purposes. You will receive 200GB of online storage space in iCloud, and can enable any iCloud syncing between Breck Mac and iPad applications, further enhancing the use of iPads as teaching and learning tools.

Most excitingly, for those who have begun using Apple Classroom, your classes and rosters will be automatically populated next year! 🎉

The new Apple IDs will use your Breck email address and Google account for authentication, and may require an update to a “personal” Apple ID you may have created in the past.

After we have enabled the Managed Apple IDs and any account conflicts have been resolved, you will be able sign into iCloud on your Breck Mac and iPad using your Google Account.

Then, your favorite applications, such as Notability, GoodNotes, Freeform, Keynote will be enabled for iCloud sharing. Additionally the  “Continuity” features for using your iPad as an external screen will work as well.

As mentioned above, we will also be able to pre-populate Apple Classroom with student rosters for the upcoming school year, which will facilitate classroom device management and collaboration and remove the need for the current class creation process.

More information about the username conflict process can be found at Apple’s Support site.
